City has a long history of hosting public lectures for the University, local and public community. The Edwards Lecture, run in conjunction with the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument makers, is the longest-running lecture series and has been given annually since 1970 by many renowned speakers including several Nobel Prize winners. The Mais Lecture (banking and finance) has been taking place since 1978, past speakers have included the Chancellor of the Exchequer and Governor of the Bank of England. The James Cameron Memorial Lecture, celebrates the highest level of journalism with lectures from recognisable broadcast and print journalists. As well as annual lectures the university regularly welcomes internal and external high profile speakers and panels from a variety of areas to speak on research and current affairs.
This year, in addition to our regular events calendar we are hosting a series of special commemorative lectures and concerts.
