Professor Laudan Nooshin plays an active role in offering culturally enriching experiences to young people in the local community. She initiated a project to bring a 10th century Iranian story to contemporary audiences, with partners including Tiny Owl Publishing and Arts Council England. As Head of Music, Laudan uses links with Islington Council’s Culture team to ensure pupils in local schools can access a variety of events hosted by the Department, inviting them to visit their state-of-the-art facilities and even the opportunity to utilise spaces. This work was instrumental in establishing City as a Cultural Partner for Islington Council’s 11 by 11 pledge; a commitment for every young person attending school in Islington to have 11 culturally enriching experiences by Year 11. Laudan recently collaborated with partners including Tiny Owl Publishing, Arts Council England and the Iran Heritage Foundation on ‘The Phoenix of Persia’, a new illustrated children’s book with accompanying soundtrack which brings a legendary 10th century Iranian story to contemporary audiences. This project is designed to promote children and families’ understanding of the Middle East and Iran in particular.
